Habits, what are they? How are they formed?
A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. The American Journal of Psychology defined a "habit, from the standpoint of psychology, [as] a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing, or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience." Wikipedia
Undeniably, habits are very powerful, practically everything about the human presence here on earth is ‘shackled’ to habits. One can safely say that we are ‘slaves’ to our habits. One unique thing about habits, is that they are formed by us, more like a building that we create and literally dwelling in it and living from it, I like to view it that way.
The earth is a warehouse of systems and these systems interact and these interactions creates a level of influence which dictates the behavioral patterns of both animate and inanimate entities that have made the earth their dwelling place. So in inferring that our habits (behavioral patterns) are firmly rooted in our habitats, the dwelling place of our being will not be out of place.
Our senses responds to the stimuli they are exposed to and these responses form a pattern and the continuity of these patterns create habits after the semblance of a mould that shapes our character.
Our Habits are more like are our residence, the address at which we can be reached, found and engaged with. It gives off unique ‘lights’ (signals) that are particular in nature and can be read and traced back to us.
All of these come from what I call pattern practicing, consciously and/or unconsciously arising from our sub-conscious that is never asleep, but very much alive
So I ask, do you form habits or habits form you?
